Aurangabad is a city that preserves a rich cultural heritage. Located in the northern part of Maharashtra, Aurangabad is located at a distance of 375 kms from Mumbai. Aurangabad is better known as the gateway to the ancient caves of Ajanta and Ellora. Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, who ruled the country from the place till his death, is credited of building many architectural gems that still adorn the landscape of this historical city of Maharashtra. The cave temples and monasteries at Ellora, excavated out of the vertical face of an escarpment, are 26 kms. North of Aurangabad. Extending in a linear arrangement, the 34 caves contain Buddhist Chaityas, or halls of worship, and Viharas, or monasteries, Hindu and Jian temples.

Ellora has been designated as a World Heritage Site, to be preserved as an artistic legacy that will continue to inspire and enrich the lives of generations to come.
